Pastes for Sore throat
Paste for sore throat is meant to be licked as it slowly dissolves in the mouth and provides a coating on sore throat. It has a very soothing effect and it heals inflammation and irritation in the throat that occurs due to constant coughing. Generally honey is used as the base to make a paste for sore throat because it is a natural expectorant and it has healing properties. Different ingredients are mixed with honey for natural treatments for sore throat.
Honey and Basil
Basil is a natural antibiotic and it helps to cure throat infection. Grind 6-8 leaves of basil to make a paste, add 1 tea spoon honey and take it two times a day. Take ½ tea soon of dried basil leaves powder and mix it with 1 tea spoon honey. Take it two to three times a day to treat sore throat.
Ginger and Honey
Ginger has pain relieving properties, it relieves throat pain and swelling that is caused by persistent coughing. Take 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, pound it and chew it with 1 tea spoon honey. The saliva will have soothing effect on sore throat. Dried ginger powder or saunth is equally effective natural treatment for sore throat. Take ½ tea spoon ginger powder and mix it with 1 tea spoon honey to make a paste. Eat the paste after meals twice a day.
Cinnamon and Honey
Cinnamon powder is very effective treatment for sore throat. It relieves inflammation and provides relief in cough. Take ¼ tea spoon cinnamon powder; add 1 tea spoon honey and take it twice a day.
Turmeric and Honey
Turmeric has antibacterial and anti spasmodic properties. It heals infection and relieves irritation and scratchy feeling in the throat. Take 1/4 tea spoon turmeric powder; add one tea spoon honey and eat it 15 minutes after your meals twice a day. Do not eat or drink anything for 15 minutes after taking this paste.
Decoctions for Sore Throat
Decoctions are the safest and most effective natural treatment for sore throat. Decoction helps to cleanse the respiratory tract by removing phlegm and mucous from it. It makes breathing easier and helps you to sleep better. Decoctions works best when taken at bed time.
Liquorice is a natural expectorant; it has a soothing effect on sore throat. The decoction prepared with liquorice lubricates the throat and provide relief in dry cough. Boil one inch piece of liquorice in one cup water till it is reduced to half. Steep it for 10 minutes, strain the water, add 1 tea spoon honey and drink it slowly when slightly warm.
Basil has enormous medicinal and curative properties. It helps to remove phlegm and catarrhal matter from respiratory tract. A decoction of basil leaves helps to treat sore throat effectively. Take 5-7 fresh basil leaves, 3-4 whole black pepper, ¼ tea spoon dry ginger powder and 2-3 cloves. Boil them in 250 ml. water till it is reduced to half. Strain the mixture and add 1 tea spoon honey or jaggery to it. Sip it slowly while still hot to treat sore throat.
Gargles for Sore Throat
Gargles are the safest and most natural way of treating sore throat. Gargle provides fomentation to sore throat. You should gargle twice a day after meals to cleanse sore throat.
Saline Water for Gargles
Salt is a great healer. It relieves pain and swelling in sore throat. Mix one tea spoon common salt in a glass of hot water and use it for gargle.
Fenugreek for Gargles
Fenugreek water cleanses the throat and it relieves dry cough. Boil a tea spoonful of fenugreek seed in a glass of water for 2-3 minutes. Strain the mixture and use it for gargle when it comes down to a tolerable temperature.
Tea for Gargles
Tea water has a soothing effect on irritant throat and it treats cough and inflammation. Boil one glass of water; add ½ tea spoon tea leaves to it. Remove from fire and cover it for 2-3 minutes. Strain the tea, add a pinch of common salt and use it for gargles to treat sore throat.
